HD video is here to stay, but with it come plenty of issues. Like frame sizes. In the image below blue represents a full 1920 x 1080 HD frame. Yellow represents a 720p HD frame. White is a full NTSC DV standard def frame and orange is the area within a standard def frame when the image is letterboxed. It is no wonder why standard def material is a challenge to upconvert, and likewise it is no wonder why HD material takes up more space on our hard drives and requires more processing power.

To make matters worse, frame rates vary with HD codecs. In standard def NTSC we had 29.97. With HD we have 29.97, 59.94 and 23.98. And they don't always play together. For these reasons pre-planning before the shoot will insure that post production goes smoothly. Sometimes the client will need some coaching on the various formats and their strengths and applications. Getting brushed up on the various codecs, frame sizes and frame rates (not to mention progressive and interlaced) will help you make the right decision for the shoot.
More on frame rates later...

We had some major hosting problems a while back with our friends over at Hostway. I'd been with them since 2001 and they really blew it when we upgraded to a newer larger hosting plan. After having no email for a month I did some research and landed with HostMonster. So far so good.
In doing some maintenance on the site I noticed a couple of dead links on the site that really have a few gems in there. Click on the link below to see the award winning work we produced for the 60th anniversary of the Addy Awards show, the Madison Advertising Federation's biggest night of the year.

The 2009 MCA-I Madison Summer Party was held at the Capital Brewery in Madison. It was also the venue for a board wrap meeting for the 2008-2009 season and a planning session for the new year. We had a beautiful night in the beer garden and all had a great time.

MCA-I is a networking and professional development organization with chapters across the USA and the world. Madison is one of the strongest chapters in MCA-I and Wisconsin has more members than any other state.

Tri-North Builders worked with Tilt Media to produce this short video highlighting a few features of their green building. This short segment is designed to become part of a longer half-hour series aimed at a PBS audience.
The reviews of this video have been overwhelming.

Turns out there were a few lurkers out there after all so I decided to resurrect the old blog at Tilt Media. I think you'll find this one new and improved. I hoe to put up some compelling clips, video production stills and more. We'll do our best to keep yo informed and perhaps entertained.
So come back and see what's up.
